Observation details
Cracking views. One was posted to FB today. Sighted a second bird, and then a distant third. Ended up having 3 together, wouldn't doubt there being a few more birds. Bouncing around the pier in strong winds. Unmistakable. Upon review of photos, birds all appear to be young birds, feeding on greed isopods close to the surface. Some would occasionally dip dive to reach the invertebrates, but only shallow dives, I would rarely see the whole bird going under, however I do have shots with the full bird underwater. Presumably all young birds from Port Phillip breeding grounds which have historically been mud islands and south channel fort.
