Observation details
Heard calling repeatedly while we were on a walk up Sycamore Drive. The owl was still calling as we walked back down from the Ash Mountain Rec Hall, past the same blue oak stand. It was still calling an hour later and audible from the Southern Sierra Research Center, so Sylvia and I walked less than a quarter mile and located the owl perched about half way up a blue oak.
