Observation details
In Feb '23 i observed a pair of Sav Sparrows and have continued to monitor this site on Hill School road. I was pleased to spot 3, at the same location, in December '23. A fourth sparrow appeared but could not be properly ID'd, in January. After snow, rain and heavy flooding, I did not observe a Savannah Sparrow in this location for 10 days, until this past week when I found just the one. Concerned that weather may have taken its toll I have repeatedly visited the site. Today i spent 3+ hours monitoring this site and was amazed. I was able to visually ID, 4 Savannah Sparrows at this exact location. I watched them run across the snow into mucky areas of cornstalks and earth, moving the dirt for bugs. Two of the group also came to the roadside pecking. It was interesting to me, how these Sav's actions seemed to resemble the Horned Larks that occupy their surrounding fields, year-round. Mote to come.
