Observation details
Cont. small puffball with a short tail. Moving along length of western fence, but centered around the bathroom, here: (32.9694618, -115.5553060) To my eyes, seemed more rufous and lighter in color than the average Pacific Wren, but might be biased given I was expecting a Winter here. Throat is definitely on the extreme pale end of the spectrum for Pacific, although we had an extremely pale-throated Pacific on Palomar Mtn. last winter. While the visual notes are interesting, the only sure-fire ID method here is by call. Calls more of a “chimp” than the "kissing" sound of Pacific. Bird gave a nice series of double- and triple-chimps, which show a heavy low end on the spectrogram and an overall "arched" shape to the call. Found by Matt Sadowski and John Dumlao 12/20/2023.
