Observation details
= 1 = /14 Flame-colored Tanager ::: our yard June 13, 2010 ::: /14; Cont., singing strongly around 8:30 a.m. (tape by RAR, more poor photos by me), seen to make a loop in riparian along creek out into larger mesquites above our yard and back eventually to the Spoffords' place, singing from at least four large mesquites and a small walnut at least 100m out in the mesquite scrub before returning to the large trees. With tail fanned at one point, at least one small white corner to the outer tail. Song loud, a three- phrase song with a burr to it like Western Tanager. No call. Crown continues to show an orangish cast in the front. [Addendum Feb 2024: REW recordings can be downloaded from Xeno-canto XC872354 XC872355; RAR recordings to Macaulay for the applicable days]
