Observation details
continuing bird, will switch classification if consensus develops on whether or not it's a hybrid [edit: consensus seems to be potentially yellow-bellied, but best left as a /, so updating here]. Spotted in a smaller tree on the north side of the trail near 38.543290, -121.701340. It was intently digging wells on a tree for nearly ten minutes only about 15 feet off the ground, which allowed me to get several different vantage points. Will add photos shortly. Note that there is a *small* amount of red on the nape visible in one or two photos.
