Observation details
*Flagged as rare, out of range. Small-type gull with very red bill with black tip, which should rule out all the small gulls aside from Black-headed. Also very red legs and significant black on the underside of the wings, more than would be expected of a Bonaparte’s. Black on tail when flying as well as some brown on wings when standing denotes first cycle. Slightly smaller than an adjacent Ring-billed. Found at the end of the point where it was on water, eventually flew to a rock, preened for a few minutes, then flew back to the water, before flying off, circling back and then presumably leaving.
