Observation details
*very rare, founded yesterday by Schmidt & others (see Ornitho) | first spotted by NW fishing pier, noticed gadwall-like body (gray flanks, vertical white strip) but with brown chest showing, head shape better for a wigeon species and shorter bill length, unfortunately backlighting prevented us for seeing much color but briefly noticed some green from the head. We moved to the south main pier and though still had distant views the green coloring on the back of the head really shined with sun right on it. White belly and brown chest for me says American Wigeon influence rather than a domesticated Chiloe Wigeon parent which has been suggested by others. Digiscope pictures attached but see others in ornitho (https://www.ornitho.de/index.php?m_id=54&backlink=skip&mid=1062696). | (24 April 2024 update): could only be determined down to Gadwall x unidentified Wigeon (American, Chiloe, Eurasian…)
