Observation details
Rare annually overwintering species in north Florida. Kinglet with black and white stripes on face and bright golden crown. Never heard it vocalize—I noticed it hover-gleaning high up in the canopy of flowering cypresses along Camps Canal and thought it might be a Golden-crowned Kinglet on account of that specific behavior. Sure enough, as soon as I got my bins on it I could see all the right field marks. Watched it for about 10 minutes and took some video/pics. My first-of-year.
