Observation details
BOC photos for now. ***Missouri Life Bird*** - Appears to be a non-breeding adult, notes here regarding original find: https://ebird.org/checklist/S160299437 - Bird observed for entire duration of this checklist. Mostly observed resting on water but did chase a few Ring-billeds on occasion. Eventually flew further out off the point and did a bit of hunting itself (where it would just drop into the water like a gannet/booby). - All observations within 100-300 yards. - Only other gull species that it was side-by-side with was Ring-billeds. - On water, noticeably smaller than Ring-billed Gulls, with obvious yellow, relatively long, unmarked yellow bill, gray upperparts same shade as Ring-billeds, faint gray washed collar that extended onto top of head with black ear spots (like Bonaparte's). - In flight, mantle gray, but faded to white in primaries, with the black wingtip dipped in ink look. Could see the black leading edge of P10 as it flew at me. - Black legs seen, but only when it dove into the water. - Mostly kept to itself. - Buoyant, somewhat bouncy flight.
