Observation details
Found along the northwest-southeast-oriented path, just to the western side of the small wooden overlook and the marble Ducks Unlimited placard. Initially heard chipping, clearly distinct from the Myrtle-race YRWA that were in the same area. Finally got on the bird on the back side of a tree/shrub at 11:47 AM. Yellow throat very apparent, wider black markings on undertail, bill seemed slightly different, slight darker tones to back and face than Myrte's, maybe a slight width difference in the lower wing bar. I spent the next hour and a half working the same area trying for some clear images, but this bird constantly stayed either on the opposite side of the ditch in the brush, or on the backside of the vegetation. Steve & Amy arrived and made things more manageable and eventually we got some decent shots and also some voice records of the distinctive chip note. At 1:12 PM, we left the area to walk the rest of the perimeter, and when I got back here again at 1:50 PM, the bird was still vocal and visible in the same exact location, through 1:54 PM, when I departed. After looking through many thousands of YRWA here over the last decade, this was an unexpected and most welcome surprise.
