Observation details
#08 1638 PEFA On the easternmost of the four tall poles on the Hammer Heath Sciences Building north of Haven Avenue along Fort Washington Avenue north and east of the overlook. First facing the west side then turned to face due east then headed back to facing the river by 1642. Roused at 1732. Still perched and facing the river through 1750. It appears as if it’s roosting for the evening. This might be the latest I’ve ever seen a Peregrine Falcon after sunset. It was too late to keep eyes on the Peregrine from this distance and with a slight shiver. • One on the northeast corner of the western tower on the George Washington Bridge seen from well south of West 165th Street and confirmed at the overlook by 1645. Off by 1654. • The size difference between the male kestrel and the Peregrine Falcon was considerable. • Distance to the perched falcon: building height 354 feet at a distance of 900 feet = 967 feet (0.18 miles) to the perch — the Peregrine was just visible naked eye shortly after sunset as the pole disappeared. Later the falcon was no longer visible naked eye but the white pole became visible again. • iNaturalist entry: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/198627938
