Observation details
Two Semipalmated Plovers using mud habitat in creek between Ocean Beach Park and Waterford Town Beach. This sequence of photos shows one of the plovers reacting to a Northern Harrier hunting nearby. First the birds noticed the Harrier and squatted down. Then they progressively lowered themselves until flat against the mud making as small a target as possible in hopes the Harrier misses noticing them. They were successful!
