Observation details
Seen well and voice - sound recorded (https://xeno-canto.org/207703 & https://xeno-canto.org/207704) . XC's Remarks from the Recordist: . Bill snapping from a couple of individuals found foraging with a HUGE army ants swarm. The ants were of a smaller kind and most likely Labidus sp. The swarm was attended by: White-plumed Antbird · Pithys albifrons, White-cheeked Antbird · Gymnopithys leucaspis, Common Scale-backed Antbird · Willisornis poecilinotus, Black-throated Antbird · Myrmeciza atrothorax, Coraya Wren · Pheugopedius coraya, Plain-brown Woodcreeper · Dendrocincla fuliginosa, and White-crowned Manakin · Dixiphia pipra. . Habitat was white-sand forest actually with some flooded areas (not near várzea/igapó though) and not as stated in HBW: "to date found exclusively in well-drained terra firme forest with 20–25 m-high canopy". . This is the first confirmed record of this species for Colombia and represents a range extension of more than 150 km N of its traditional distribution in Amazonian lowlands of Colombia. . Observation made with my mate Jorge González and the superb local guide and friend Miguel Portura both from EtnoAvesVaupes, and clients Joe Church and Bill Mossey.
