Observation details
Single bird on the ground near the Evans' Hut, where the core white-necked petrel population is currently breeding. Initially spotted beside the track and notably appeared as a slightly smaller white-necked petrel with a black-grey head and grey neck. Inspection of the underwing clinched the ID with distinctive "comma" markings present in a very heavily broken carpal bar compared to white-necked petrel. Measured and photographed. Pretty astounding bird to find on the deck on the last night of a 10 week field season.
