Observation details
Scottish Crossbill. We eventually had a prolonged look at a Scottish Crossbill after seeing individual common Crossbills during a couple of hours searching. I managed to get some film of one of the pair as it called from the top of a fir tree. The main difference from the Red Crossbills that we had managed to get good views of was the heavier bill which made the head look slightly larger and also the calls were different from the Red Crossbill. We scoped the pair for some time so that we could get some good views and we could also hear the calls. I didn't want to get too close as we did not want to disturb them so although I couldn't be absolutely certain of the identification as Scottish rather than Red or Parrot. I believe that they were good candidates and so I have included them within this list separately.
