Observation details
This was a large hawk, much bigger than the Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks we see. It looked like a juvenile with streaky chest but had a white supercilium and irregular looking tail bands - we thought it was a Northern Goshawk. It was sitting in a giant old willow tree eating an unfortunate Red-shafted Flicker within easy view of our front window. Oddly, it was challenged several times by a pine squirrel and the hawk ignored it. (See photo)
