Observation details
Photos. A pair of adults, working in tandem as they stooped on a small blackbird spuh (BHCO or RWBL-like). After reviewing the photos, I suspect it was a male cowbird. They began their stoop from very high overhead, so much so that I could barely see one naked eye. And although the blackbird deftly avoided multiple attempts from both individuals, it was last captured very low over the river. It had nearly made its way to shore! I believe the (smaller) male captured the blackbird, and then quickly “flicked” it in the air, after which the female scooped it up and began circling with the prey, picking at the bird and plucking feathers. If I've correctly sexed these birds, the female is banded on the left leg.
