Observation details
Clean-looking bird with saturated yellow bill and orbital ring, barely any dark flecks on head and neck. Mottled eye is actually mostly pale, but seems conspicuously darker than nearby American hergs at a distance. Overall looked somewhat dainty, with dove-shaped head and short-ish bill. Mantle and leg color seem unremarkable, though the tarsi do have a greenish cast. Most notable was the insane wing pattern - totally white tip of P10, thayeri-like P9, black mostly limited to outer webs of P7-8 (P7 missing on left wing), ‘normal’ P6, minuscule mark on P5, and white-tipped tongues that could stretch to the next county. Very extreme end of the “white-winged herg” spectrum. Weirdly skittish…
