Observation details
While not in view when I arrived, the bird was quickly refound near the red channel marker off the kayak launch. It favored this area for almost the entire duration of my stay, briefly disappearing to the south towards Raptor Point only to return to original location. Medium-sized dark loon. Overall black in appearance except for small areas of white checkering on the back and the back of the head/neck being a noticeable frosty gray. Strong demarcation lines on the sides of neck. Dark on the face encompassing the eye. Visibly smaller than COLO in direct comparison and larger than RTLO in the same. Very round head shape. Bill was thinner and more even than COLO (lacking the angled lower mandible). More dagger shaped and blunt tipped than either COLO or RTLO. Chinstrap visible when closer, but very hard to discern at distance. Poor digiscope stills and video.
