Observation details
This adult male SSHA made an unsuccessful swoop at the feeder birds then perched in a tree near a window of the house through which I was able to capture these voucher photos to study for species verification. First, because of red barring and red eye, it’s an adult Accipiter. It was only slightly larger than a Blue Jay. It has dainty legs. The dark cap continues down the nape, the cheek is orange, the tail feathers appear to all be the same length and not graduated shorter in the outers, and the terminal white band on the tail is very narrow.
