Media notes
At first I could hear only the drumming (not recorded). Then second bird joined the scene. It came within 50 meters and started calling. This recording involves two of this sequences – Shortly after the unseen individuals brief call, the first bird replied with drumming, each time!
Observation details
22.50846° N, 87.96685° E at first I was dawn here by the drumming sound. 2. The adult female woodpecker was sticking to a dead stalk of a living tree beside the dam/road. It was mostly motionless except occasional head movements checking the surroundings and drumming with long pauses in between. 3. The second bird soon joined the scene (which I couldn't locate hidden inside foliage). It came within 50 meters and started calling. Shortly after its brief call, the first individual replied with drumming, each time. This recording involves two of this exchanges. 4. Probably the first was calling its mate by drumming, since the frequency of drumming decreased once the second bird joined and the drumming by the first was in reply to the others call later on.
