Observation details
High number noted. Rare but continuing in location. There's a large proliferation of floating vegetation making ideal habitats for the crakes. Each bird was seen, in two pairs and then a single bird spaced out over a few hundred meters. The birds allowed for good looks and some photographs before they walked into the taller grass. Overall, it's a small crake, smaller than Ruddy Crakes. Well patterned bird, pale yellow overall, darker yellow wings and back with black and white streaks, black and white barring on the flanks, dark cap and eye stripe, white eyebrow and throat, dark greenish beak. Photographed.
