Media notes
Two consecutive cuts of two phoebes—a Black and an Eastern—which are calling and chasing each other around, the Black Phoebe giving the single notes, the Eastern doing its song intermittently, as they chase each other around and hanging out together, having suddenly appeared at 7:50am on 15 Dec 2005 right outside the back door (where Black Phoebes often hang out), on a cold, cloudy morning. Besides the Black Phoebe, the background includes: Gambel’s Quail in the 2nd cut. Recorded using an M-Audio MicroTrack 24/95 with a Sennheiser ME67 and foam windscreen.
Observation details
Interacting with a Black Phoebe. The two moved together around the yard several times, the Black Phoebe giving the chirp call, and the Eastern the "phoebe" song phrase (recording). We had good views of its dark heard, with no eye ring; an olive back, some whitish wing edgings, yellowish-olive sides, but whiter central underparts. Eastern Phoebe is a rarity in our yard, our first record having been 7dec2002, but not seen again until now.
