Sound reduced by 50%. Birds tussles with each other and some drop into the river. Some swim to safety, albeit exhausted and some expire
Observation details
On 23rd December 1986 I estimated 250,000 Fork-tailed Swift (Apus pacificus) here (pre-taxonomic change), see Oriental Bird Club Bulletin no.5 Spring 1987 p35. The BBC have filmed here (Wild Thailand) citing 300,000 'cave adapted Swifts'. The Swifts fly into the cave exit chamber to roost in the late afternoon twilight. In the morning they swarm around the chamber, line the roof, stalactites and walls, flying out again about 08.30 when the sun reaches the chamber. Many birds fall into the river and are eaten by fish, others swim, crawl out and rest at your feet exhausted (captured on video). Video
