Observation details
Potentially adult short-billed gull seen by JGJ earlier; appeared a touch more slender and smaller than RBGU, with very heavily-marked smudgy nape, head, and markings down sides of breast. Bill appears smaller, however, as evidence of Bigfoot-esque digiscope pic, bird was very distant and never gave an angle to view mantle, wings, to rule out heavily-marked RBGU. EDIT June 2024: Changing to SBIG based on - Extensively marked smudgy head down to upper chest, and very heavily marked face are typical for SBIG in nonbreeding plumage, very unusual/for RBGU. Generally size and bill compared to nearby RBGU seems consistent with SBIG.
