Recorded as best I could. One bird calling from ~80+ feet north, one calling from ~50ft south. Will try to relocate when I can.
Observation details
Detected by “kip” flight call, have recording- it’s distant but you can hear the birds. ID supported by Merlin, for whatever that’s worth, but it also checked out with my experience of RECR call (and matched recordings of flight calls I listened to on AirPods at the time). At least two, calling from different directions and distances at the same times. Will upload ASAP. Did not visually see, but bird calling to my left got more distant shortly before I began recording. Did not have repeating pattern of Northern Mockingbird call, and I didn’t detect European Starling in the area within a few minutes of recording. Detected near Rods St. entrance, one north and one south of the path. These were recorded approximately 1.3km away from Clayton Rucker's accepted report on 27 December. I am in the process of cleaning up the audio. Spectrogram on cleaned recording seems to support Type 2 (Ponderosa) which geographically makes sense, but I'm not confident in this and have not yet sent the recording to an expert.
