Observation details
Within a 7 minute period, counted 74 on south side of swing arm, 121 on the north, wetter ground side, counted one by one. At first birds flying in about a dozen at a time, starting around 10:30 a.m. They seemed to settle down, with very few birds flying. Most were stationary or slowly walking, so a good count was possible. Birds in a relatively small plane, with most birds fairly close to the water being sprayed. Most birds were bathing in the spray or feeding in the wet and dry areas near the irrigation rig. Rig arm was parallel to Co Rd 619, with the low angled sun to the side, giving fairly close views in excellent light. Over 100 LBCUs seen near this same rig, then perpendicular to Co Rd 619 yesterday at about the same time of day.
