Observation details
If my count from Robbins (2020) is correct, this is the ***9th Missouri record*** and maybe more phenomenal is that it is the 2nd record for the Blue Grosbeak Trail (24 Nov – 8 Jan 2011-12, Weldon Spring (MBr et al.). No problems finding it, as WGNSS group had already located it. Bird first observed walking along edge of road and then flew to tree. - First found and reported by Jian Xu 1 January. - Upperparts coloration similar to Mourning Dove, with dark brownish spots on folded wings. - Nape and breast scaly in appearance. - Bill red base with black tip. - Only seen fly briefly, and rufous underwing was obvious. Cannot say I observed the white corners of the tail in flight, but photos show white edge tail feathers.
