Observation details
I'm creating this checklist in the hopes that an earbirding expert will be able to figure out what we heard. In the attached audio recording, there is a two-note whistle at 4 seconds and 48 seconds into the recording. It may be necessary to boost the volume pretty high to hear it. We heard this sound multiple times in a roughly 5 minute period, with different time gaps between the two-note whistles. In the field, the sound was distinct and loud but in the recording it is muffled a little by nearby machinery. To be honest, we are not 100% sure what we heard was a bird, but in the field it struck us as an animal sound (not a human machine) and it had the characteristics of a bird rather than a mammal.
