Observation details
Huge vulture, with dark black/brown wings with evident fingering, a bare pink head, thick beak and whitish underside including streaks of brown. Wings both long and very wide. Soaring near camel market where carcasses are dumped. Similar sp. is the Eurasian Griffon, which is slightly smaller, with a much thinner bill and lacks a pale line on the underwing coverts, which was evident on these birds. Regular resident in this part of Egypt, Griffon is at best scarce on passage in spring and autumn, so it is extremely unlikely at this time of year. Photos to be uploaded.
