Observation details
Looks like an escaped Paradise Shelduck. White head, dark bill, orange-brown body, dark primaries, iridescent secondaries partly visible. The bird was swimming near a large flock of Canada geese at Sinking Ponds Wildlife Refuge in East Aurora, Erie County, NY. Thanks to Robert Sielaff for identifying this bird. It is native to New Zealand and non-migratory. Photos attached.
