Observation details
A flock bopped around the Greenlee/Waneka buffer for quite some time, then raided the Greenlee feeders. Flock size in such situations quite difficult to work out—despite lengthy period of observation (at least 20 minutes). When birds crossed the little clearings in the buffer and and at the feeder, I could get quickly on 20+, with at least 5 still hanging back. 25 likely an undercount. Media: ML612768147: typical adult female (by eye color). ML612768151: birds at millet feeder, and note band on one of the females (by eye color). ML612768156: part of the flock at suet feeder. ML612768161: part of the flock at millet feeder. ML612768166: The flock raids the Greenlee feeders. ML612768172: The flock at sundown in the Greenlee/Waneka buffer. Note the "Brownian motion," entirely typical. ML612768173: A single male (by eye color) feeding, with diverse vocalizations by flockmates. Photo/video editing. Videos: slight stabilization for ML612768161 and ML612768173; wasn't necessary for ML612768172. For photos, the intense red/orange/yellow (higher wavelengths) is true/natural, given the low sun angle and surrounding vegetation; all images sharpened (because of low light conditions ).
