Observation details
*High but not unexpected for extent of habitat covered and time of year (HY birds out and about). Dream bird for me. First sound I heard getting out of the car (after a few unidentified longspur flight calls) was the eerie descending song of a displaying Sprague’s! Little did I know that this would be the dominant soundtrack of the morning, as singing and displaying adult were present along the entirety of Oka Rd. In addition to the wondrous skylarking show put on by the breeding adults, the HY birds were out in full force along the road, making up around 55-60% of the SPPI seen this morning along Oka. Delicate, grassland-type plumage with a nuanced beauty (not striking like BLBW, for example, but providing the same effect as LESP!).
