"Melanistic mutant," not true mealnism
Observation details
Apparent “Melanistic Mutant” pheasant, a variety of Common/Ring-necked Pheasant developed in England 100 years ago. Several sources state they have a “phenomenal ability to survive and breed when released into the wild.” Seen on Conaway property, CR 27 east of CR 103. Very long tail. Strange posture but did not seem injured.
