Observation details
– first time getting photos of this species with a camera, seeing them up close, and getting photos of them in china! Before I’ve only seen them in Taiwan from the airport windows, the most common myna (hence the name) of SE asia. Very abundant – I actually heard their calls before seeing them, very weird and interesting calls coming from a tall tree at side of pond at baiguoyuan – got recordings. I then saw them through bins, and wasn’t surprised, because that’s exactly the kind of calls mynas make! Typical myna behavior, very bold. They descended from the tree and lower than there are food stalls, they were closed but the mynas were foraging in that area. – even perching on the fridges of the food stalls, on the roofs, and walking in typical myna fashion, swinging their legs, all over the ground, although they quickly scattered when I came close and flew up together onto the roofs of the food stall or trees – very coordinated like starlings. Also got nice photos of one foraging in the grass across the street from the food stall where I was photographing the pipit. Very interesting birds like all mynas and starlings! first time getting photos of this species with a camera, seeing them up close, and getting photos of them in china!
