Observation details
Group of about 20 on south slope of Carr, some definitely feeding on Doug-fir cones and others on pine cones (likely P. arizonicus). They were feeding right along trail at eye level because of steep slope! Great views even without binoculars. About evenly males and females (males very red). Recorded, audios are from high elevation flock -- I see Type 2/Ponderosa "kinked" and I think Type 4/Doug-fir, and possible two notes of Type 3/Western Hemlock (e.g., the "n" notes at 3.7 and 4.5)?? Then another 5 or so in lower elevation “pine (ponderosa) grove" with no recording. Confirmed have Type 2 and Type 4 by email by Matt Young of Finch Research Network. I'm estimated ~10 Type 4 (on Doug-fir cones), ~5 Type 2 (on pine cones) and ~10 unknown or unrecorded.
