Observation details
After a little bit hiking off-trail and on bike trails through the burned portion of 'The Hub', the area past Idyllwild Arts, we refound this bird first discovered yesterday by Elizabeth Younce and seen a bit earlier before we arrived by Curtis Marantz. The immediate area where Curtis had seen it unfortunately had some logging / chainsawing start up right after he saw it, and this bird appeared to have left this vicinity near the creek and near the edge of Idyllwild Arts property. We went roughly west adjacent to the creek along some bike trails, then turned at a fork towards the upper sewer pond. When we approached the road again, we spotted a bird in live pine trees across the road at roughly 33°43'57.1"N 116°45'08.1"W , then it luckily flew across the road into a snag right above our head at our location on a bike trail, about 33°43'55.8"N 116°45'10.6"W . While it was above our head, we clearly saw a Contopus flycatcher with a distinctive crested 'do, though our view was somewhat backlit. We only briefly heard it make a few quiet 'pip's. After we got decent looks, it flew further down across the creek to the ridge (the end of Middle Ridge on Idyllwild Arts property). Awesome bird!
