Media notes
In the 1st cut, a Masked Antpitta sings after a very little bit of playback from ca. 5’ up in very dense, seasonally flooded varzea at Hamburgo. Background includes: Fawn-breasted Wren, Blue-crowned Trogon, Cobalt-winged Parakeet, Buff-throated Woodcreeper. After half an hour, we came back and found what was surely the same individual continuing to sing (the second recording). Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
RPB, great views 2-4 meters up to taller, denser varzea, giving long song; eventually froze silently; very little playback needed; none heard spontaneously, though this bird giving vesper song more than half an hour after playback; a lifer for MR, RAR, & REW!
