Observation details
First observed with the Common Raven chasing it and I thought it was a FEHA, However, while grabbing my camera and taking photos it was difficult to watch for details. Then I saw it hover and observed the dorsal pattern with a lack of rufous and thought it was a RLHA. However, by later viewing all of my photos I determined that it is a first year Ferruginous Hawk that lacks the rufous color in the dorsal of the wings and the ventral on the legs. It has NO belly-band and also lacks the ventral wrist dark-square patch of a Rough-legged Hawk. It does have a smudgy terminal dark band to the tail ... but not distinctive like a RLHA.
