Observation details
Bird was seen at this point in the park: (38.879, -94.571) eBird reviewer Mary Nemecek told me to use the hotspot location for the checklist. Bird was along the power line right-of-way. Between the open area under the power line and just west of the trail that leads off to the left from the parking spot. First heard the bird calling by itself in the distance. I first heard this as I began to cross under the powerline on the trail. I followed the call until I could see the bird calling from a tree top to the south of me. Call was strong enough to be picked up and confirmed by Merlin. At that point I played the Merlin recordings of the birds peep calls and the bird came flying toward me. The bird kept flying toward me, eventually crossing the open habitat under the powerline, perch to perch, until it landed in a cedar that was only 15 ft away from where I was standing on the western treeline under the power line. The bird was always backlit for photos due to the overcast conditions, but I did see the overall gray bird with the eye ring, and upright posture. No color on breast other than gray! I will upload the distant backlit photos that I took as well as the Merlin recording of the bird calling. Thanks birder Keaton who found it earlier in the morning and pointed me in the right direction!
