Media notes
See checklist notes. The second bird interrupted the first bird's terminal hoots with a wail. The hoots following the 2nd bird's wail were from the second bird.
Observation details
At stop 1, one gave a wail & hoot call just E of me 30 sec after my third bout of tooting. Before its final hoots were done, a second BAOW gave another wail & hoot a bit farther away to the south of me. That was the first time I'd ever heard one wail & hoot elicit a second from a nearby owl. At stop 3, a barred owl gave a "who cooks for you" doublet far to the west. At stop 4, one gave 6 and 3 WCFY singlets in the first and second 5-minute intervals respectively. These calls were also well to my west, so I suspect the source of calls at both stops 3 and 4 was the same individual.
