Observation details
Two portly, dunlin-sized first winter plumaged birds characterized by prominent bright white edging to wing coverts and tertials contrasting with pale grey edges to sooty grey scapulars and mantle feathers. Head, nape and upper breast a true battleship grey. Dull white orbital ring and white fleck in loral region. Tarsi and toes a flat orange colour. Bill gently decurved toward the tip; proximal third of bill dull orange, distal two thirds a flat grey. Small beads of water can be seen on the upperparts in the first two pictures.
