Observation details
Definitely 3, and possibly 4 individuals. The brushy and weedy early successional habitat on this RWA property several years after pines stands were cleared is clearly preferred habitat for this species in late fall. We saw the first one in an area of short white pines and weeds just west of Lake #1. We then walked to the weedy/brushy area NE of Lake # 3. We saw two birds there at the same time (one chased the other). Later, we saw what could have been a 4th bird (or one of the earlier birds) in an area near Lake # 3. Each bird was seen well: they were grayish above with dark eyelines, broken eyerings, blurry streaks on yellowish chests and yellow undertail coverts. Photos by Mark G.
