Observation details
While scouting for the Bishop CBC during lunch break, we found this bird at the north east corner of the alfalfa field off Sunland, at the green gate that leads into the golf course. It was loosely associating with a flock of White-crowned Sparrows and Audubon’s Warblers. It was smaller than any of those birds. It was successfully picking what looked like small black beetles or maybe flies off of bark and telephone poles. It had a sharp bill, a snow white throat, and an unmarked olive greenish back with faint wing bars. Small bits of black feathers were coming in at the bottom of the throat so probably a young male. A lovely orange yellow blush was at the sides of the breast right where it meets the curve of the wing. The characteristic yellow patches were on the outside retrices. We hope it stays for the Bishop CBC on Saturday. If looking for this bird, please do not use playback. Thanks.
