Observation details
Chilling right inside willow patch looking to get sun early on (photo). Later on return a juvenile Cooper's Hawk flew into the willow where the bird was foraging. And while the Coop was hanging in the willow we started to hear a call that I thought was first a raptor and even called out "Ferruginous Hawk?" I then started recording the call and realized that it was actually seemingly coming from the cattails just north of the willow on the edge of Eastern Pond. I then compared the calls to Purple Gallinule calls from Merlin and the sonogram from the fourth call down matched pretty perfectly. It started doing this call after the Coop had flew into the willow so maybe this is considered an alarm call?
