Observation details
Murrelet discovered by Jim Lind. Studied well in a scope, observing the bird both in flight (at a distance), as well as swimming and diving (seen both at a distance and fairly close-up). Stocky-bodied and short-billed profile, with slight upturned head. Black-helmeted appearance (dark face) with gray throat, bright white breast, bright white undertail coverts, topped with dark gray wings. The bold white underbelly was observed as the bird flew around. White from breast area continued into the back part of the head. The bird would "plunge" dive with the wings out when going below the surface. When seen flying around, the bird flew very low to the surface of the water.
