Media notes

The grebe made this call during a little bit of a lull from the noisy Canada Geese that had just arrived on the lake.

Observation details

Continuing on sunset lake. Large grebe with dagger-like bill. Dark upper parts with a messy wash into white front of neck and lower head. Saw white wing stripes briefly when it flapped it's wings a few times. Heard two different vocalizations. Once when it was alone on the lake it gave a short call of 4-5 quickly repeated notes. Later after some noisy geese arrived it gave some longer high pitched calls that I have recorded.

Additional species

  • Canada Goose Branta canadensis
