Observation details
*Incredible find by Skyler Kardell! Third state record. Photos and recording. 41.3741025, -72.1033416 Clearly visually a Western Flycatcher. Glaringly yellow, teardrop eyering, etc. I have no experience with the vocalizations of this species complex but the "tseet"/"tink" calls recorded seem to be a good match with Pac-slope calls in this audio recording: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/22984 calls are at 19s, 25s, 33s, 36s, 51s, 56s, 1:04, 1:07, 1:10, 1:17, 1:23. Calls in my recording below are at the same frequency (~7kHz) at 2s and 9.5s. Of course, this species complex is complicated and I'm no expert! Skyler noted that it responded to Cordilleran calls earlier and he, Dave Provencher, and Russ Smiley did hear a couple different vocalizations but I'm not sure if all of those were recorded. Others have noted that a single individual can give both call notes so I'm not sure if the below recording is, in fact, diagnostic and a male position note call would be helpful. The bird was silent until a couple minutes before I left and the only vocalizations I heard were these "tink" calls.
