Observation details
Third consecutive summer at this bog. Heard calling, faint tic note like quiet RUHU, did not hear song in the time we were there. Gus reports it also has a scratchy song and an ANHU display but the 'pop note sounds different. The gorget is extendible, and covers a small amount of the forecrown but less than typical ANHU. Gorget color is an orange-rose. Upperparts largely a dull green, with traces of rufous on the sides of the back. Rectrices show strong rusty color in the outer several, seen a couple of times when it fanned its tail. Underparts are dingy gray in the center of the breast with greenish tones on the flanks, and a hint of a white collar below the gorget. Beak is short, and mostly straight.
